The little shop at the corner of Bent Street  - Fine Hand Crafts for over 25 years

Christen L. Weathers

Rock formations, ancient artifacts, fossils, eroding Mexican wall, the rich colors and textures of the earth are all sources of inspiration. I try to achieve the textural effects of weathering on exposed, disintegrating surfaces  Often my pieces are mistaken for clay or stone and have the look of something that has been unearthed after a passage of time.

My work is made from pulp of cotton linter fiber. The beaten pulp is pigmented and then cast onto textural found objects using a deckle and a mold. Sometimes clay shards or twigs are embedded at this time. After being pressed, dried and then painted with acrylics, the finished piece is sealed and mounted on stretched canvas.
